Sidewalk construction at Fremont, CA
To make it easier for visually impaired residents and residents in wheelchairs, the city of Fremont took on an initiative to upgrade the city’s sidewalks for ADA compliance. I am illustrating the process in pictures which show the intersection near my home being upgraded. A backhoe was brought in to remove the existing sidewalk. This was followed by excavation, leveling and grading. Then an aggregate base was installed and compacted followed by laying the concrete form work. A concrete truck did the pour while foremen leveled the concrete with tools. A yellow sidewalk pad with ADA truncated domes was installed on the ramp. The concrete was left to cure which was followed by asphalt finishing to complete the work
